# Key concepts

> Shared product terms used across Stralos

These concepts appear across the Stralos interface and API documentation.

## Project

A project is the commercial job record. It holds client, quote number, job number (once an estimate is won), client reference, status, and location details, and it is the anchor for the estimate workspace.

## Estimate

An estimate is the pricing workspace for a project. Stralos creates or loads the project estimate when you open the estimate area. The estimate contains sections, documents, takeoff measurements, work items, TAGs, and related pricing records.

## Rate item

A rate item is a reusable catalogue identity such as labour, plant, material, or disposal. It stores the name, category, status, and category-licensed physical attributes. Its sourced prices live on rate options.

## Rate option

A rate option is one priced choice for a rate item. It records whether the price belongs to your company or a supplier company, a specific location or **All locations**, the condition, priced unit, cost or multiplier basis, validity, supplier item code, conversion information, and notes.

## Project rate override

A project rate override replaces the standard final rate for a specific project and rate option. Use overrides when a tender has project-specific supplier quotes, location costs, or negotiated terms.

## Activity

An activity is a reusable construction build-up. It can contain rate-item components and child activities, making it suitable for standard repeatable work packages.

## Assembly

An assembly is a materials-only build-up for one counted unit, for example the frame, lid and bedding for one manhole. Assemblies go inside activities. You add one from **Add assembly** in **Activities & Assemblies**.

## Work item

A work item is an estimate-specific scope line. It has quantity, unit, pricing source, status, and components. Components can reference rates, activities, or manual pricing inputs.

## Takeoff measurement

A takeoff measurement records a quantity derived from a drawing or document page. Measurements can be linked to work items so measured quantities flow into the estimate.

## Document

A document is uploaded to Stralos for scanning, extraction, classification, and suggestion generation. Document suggestions are separate from estimate records until a user accepts them.

## Suggestion

A suggestion is an AI-generated candidate record or piece of context. Suggestions are grouped into product areas such as Takeoff, Work Items, and Project Rates. Pending suggestions can be edited, moved to another area, accepted, or rejected.

## TAG

A TAG is a project-specific allowance, assumption, tag, or clarification. TAGs have code, included/excluded state, sort order, and text.

## Contract baseline

A contract baseline is a snapshot of the estimate's priced work items frozen at the time the contract is formed. Setting the baseline is a one-time action per estimate.
